Definition Vitarka Mudra<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It is a symbolic and ritual gesture of the hand used in the y<\/a>oga<\/a>the Buddhism<\/a> <\/a>and the Hinduism<\/a>. The term comes from the Sanskrit<\/strong>vitarka, which means \"reasoning<\/strong>\", \"consideration<\/strong>\" o \"deliberation<\/strong>\"; and mudra, which means \"seal\", \"mark\" or \"seal\". The vitarka mudra is also known as the \"gesture of the debate<\/strong>\" or the \"discussion mudra<\/strong>\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To perform the vitarka mudra, the tip of the index finger and thumb touch while the other fingers are extended towards the sky. The palm of the hand is usually facing outward, away from the body.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This mudra is most often associated with Buddha<\/a><\/a>It represents the transmission of his wisdom and is used when explaining his teachings. There are variations of this mudra. Historically, only the right hand showed the mudra, but today it is often practiced with both hands. Sometimes the thumb and middle finger, symbolizing compassion, or the thumb and ring finger, signifying good fortune, are touched.
