Chochin Obake - Phantom Lantern

This is the representation of a phantom lantern. In Japan they are called chochin obake. You can find its name translated in other ways to our alphabet, such as chochin-obake, bake-chochin or simply chochin.

The chochin obake is a phantom paper lantern that can be spotted fluttering in the dark Japanese nights. There are many stories of phantom lanterns but not all are considered tsukumogami.

This drawing is inspired by an illustration by Katsushika Hokusaiwhich tells the story of another lantern yokai known as chochin O-Iwa.

About my designs:

- I do not perform more than a single tattoo with each drawing what do I do. Although I can always prepare a new one like it, I do not repeat them on the skin.
