Buddhist tattoo - Dharma wheel and heart sutra

This is Antonio, a good customer who lives in Coruña and has been tattooed in Katattoomba with me.

He is a Buddhist and I made him a few tattoos with this theme between 2018 and 2019. I especially like the tattoos on his hands, they are black and simple drawings with high symbolic value.

The hands are a premature aging part of the body.The hands are exposed to the sun and chemical products that we frequently touch and are partly absorbed by the skin. In addition, we use our hands for all kinds of activities and they suffer more cuts and wear and tear than other parts of the body. 

Taking these factors into account, I have opted to combine lines and the technique of dotworkfor tattoos, so that the tattoos from the hands of Antonio remain easy to read visually and look good over the years.

Wheel of Dharma

On the right hand carries a theme often used for Buddhist tattoos, the "wheel of darma also called dharma chakrawheel of the law or wheel of doctrine. It is a well-known symbol that represents the dharma in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism.

The Dharma wheel is one of the eight auspicious symbols of Tibetan Buddhism. This set of symbols is known as Ashta mangala and are worshipped in various Asian countries and among all those around the world who believe in the teachings of the dharmic.

In Buddhism, the wheel of dharma symbolizes the doctrine followed by the Buddhists in the search for the true path. The eight spokes of the wheel represent the noble eightfold pathRight view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness and right meditation.

Sutra of the heart

In his left hand Antonio holds the sutra of the heart o sutra of the essence of wisdomone of the most popular writings among the Buddha's disciples. They recite it, chant it, study it and use it in their meditations.

The sutras o suttas are texts that bring Buddhist teachingsMany of them are taken directly from discourses of the historical Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama. Although the word sutra usually appears related to Buddhism, it can also refer to writings from other traditions such as Hinduism.
