Nara came to me with the idea of fulfilling an old dream. I had long wanted to have a phoenix on her back. I already imagined it with very vivid colors and a long tail of beautiful feathers.
At first he wanted it to take up a quarter of his back, but at the same time he told me that he would like to erase two old small tattoos, one on the right shoulder blade area and the other on the left hip area.
In the end we decided to do one bigger piece, instead of two cover ups. And with this, she would have on her body a unique and great tattoo on her body.
Like so many other mythological beings, the phoenix appears in the history of many cultures, represented in various forms. It can resemble an eagle, a rooster or other birds. And this gives the artist a lot of freedom in drawing it.
My favorite representation is the Japanese onebut Nara was looking for something more feminine. Therefore, I decided to use the peacock as a reference, and prepared the drawing using the measurements we needed to cover the two old tattoos.
It has been a pleasure to meet and tattoo Nara. It took him only one year to finish the tattoo, in a few long sessions. He did it this way because at the time he had only one free day a week, and he took advantage of it to get tattooed. Each time he made a short trip to come, since he did not live in Madrid.
Her determination and ability to bear the pain is admirable. She is beautiful and strong, worthy of carrying a phoenix of these dimensions.
