Red Goldfish Tattoo

This is Sara. When she came to get tattooed, she was finishing a stage of studies in Galicia, her homeland. At this moment, a trip abroad awaited her, to continue expanding her knowledge and experience something different, in another place with other people.

She wanted a new tattoo before this long period away from home. Sara collects tattoos and enjoyed the moment by tattooing herself with me, aware that this little fish carries the memory of an important change in her life. 

It is said that when Buddha attained enlightenment, the gods offered him eight objects of good fortune. One of them was two goldfish, representing the use of the two eyes (duality) for correct thinking.

Since then, goldfish are related to the eyes of Buddha, and symbolize wisdom, joy and freedom.

The goldfish that I have tattooed on Sara's arm belongs to a group of small drawings inspired by the Japanese iconography I have made in 2019.

Among these illustrations is the Kingyo series, with some depictions of goldfish.
