Kikko is the Japanese word for hexagon and means 'turtle shell'. It is a reference to that animal, the turtle, which symbolizes mainly longevity and happiness in Japanese culture.
It has been used in Japan to decorate objects since the Nara era (645-794) and became popular in the Nara era (645-794). Heian (794-1185). Generally the Kikko appears in the form of a geometric pattern and has numerous variations, such as the Bishamon Kikko or the Kawari Bishamon Kikko.
