It is a symbolic and ritual gesture of the hand used in the yogathe Buddhism and the Hinduism. The term comes from the Sanskritvitarka, which means "reasoning", "consideration" o "deliberation"; and mudra, which means "seal", "mark" or "seal". The vitarka mudra is also known as the "gesture of the debate" or the "discussion mudra".
To perform the vitarka mudra, the tip of the index finger and thumb touch while the other fingers are extended towards the sky. The palm of the hand is usually facing outward, away from the body.
In addition to being symbolic, the mudras are used in yoga and meditation to control the flow of energy in the body and unblock the chakras.

In another version of the vitarka mudra, the left hand rests palm up in the lap, while the right hand is raised to shoulder height with the thumb and index finger touching.
