A new era in tattooing

A new era in tattooing begins, influenced by rock'n'roll and 70's culture.

Janis Joplin may have been the first celebrity of her time to get a tattoo.and did so in the early 1970's in San Francisco with the great Lyle Tuttlealso known for tattooing other celebrities.

The world-renowned Don Ed Hardy opens his first store also in San Francisco. This after studying Fine Arts, partnering with Sailor Jerry and study Japanese tattooing with Horiyoshi II.

In 1976, the first of many tattoo conventions is held. Organized by Lyle Tuttle and Dave Yurkew in Texas.
Magazines specialized in tattooing begin to be published.
