Carried out in Madrid between 2015 and 2016.
Fish Koi are a species of carp native to China, famous for their beauty, color and tradition in Japan. Like other mythological beings, they have a vast symbolism. This tattoo is about a well-known legend that tells the story of a carp that managed to climb a huge waterfall named The Dragon Gatein the Yellow River in China. Upon arrival, as a reward for his efforts, he was transformed into a mighty dragon.. The image of the Dragon Koi portrays the moment of this transformation.
This animal, which has the body of a carp and the head of a dragon, is known in Japan as the ryūgyō. In Spanish they are called dragon carp or dragon fish. And there is an expression that is used in Spanish and English which is koi dragon. I will use this denomination which is more common in the West and on the Internet for this post.
Arthur has this beautiful tattoo. He is the brother of a long time friend and client from Porto Alegre in Brazil, my dear Cassiano Campos Pereira. I have tattooed many of his family and friends, many years ago.
Arthur currently lives in Abu Dhabi, yet he wanted to move to Madrid a few times and do long sessions to have this piece done by me. I can't explain how happy and honored I was to tattoo one more of this special family. I am very happy to be part of your history and I always remember you with great affection!
Arthur wanted to represent oneself and the moment in which he lives. At first, this tattoo was a half sleeve (total area from shoulder to elbow), and then wanted to do the full sleeve and honoring their parentsmaking a pair of fish koi who also struggle to climb the waterfall. The desire he put in, the hours of pain he went through with me, how amazingly calm he was always, and the trips he took to get this tattoo done speak volumes about who this person is. Totally deserving of this beautiful arm.
