How do I prepare for the day I am going to get a tattoo?

Preguntas frecuentes sobre tatuaje - dudas y consejos
Can I prepare in any way for the day of the tattoo?
Is there anything I should know or do for the day of my tattoo appointment?
How do I prepare myself for the moment of getting a tattoo?
Is there anything I can do to suffer less during the tattoo?

I would like to give you a series of recommendations for the moment of tattooing. They will help you feel less pain and move less during the session, and then to better healing. By collaborating as much as you can during the realization of your tattoo, you will achieve a better result.

It would be good for you to follow these recommendations in any case, but mainly if you will do a tattoo that needs more than one hour to be done. In the case of slightly larger tattoos, you will need more concentration when doing it and more dedication during the cures.

You will undergo an artistic process that will be on your skin for life. For a good result, it takes concentration and total dedication from both parties, tattooist and tattooed.

Indications prior to tattooing

Before making an appointment

1 - First of all, if you want to get a tattoo, you need to know if you meet the minimum health conditions that you will need for the tattoo to heal well.. Certify that you are eligible for tattooing at this time. Click on the link if you want to know more about tattooing. CONTRAINDICATIONS FOR TATTOOING.

2 - Yes you live in Spain and you are under 18 years of age, you will need the consent of a parent or legal guardian. If they are in doubt whether or not to give you permission to do it, nothing better than to visit the professional you have chosen to inform you a little more. Do not forget to bring your identification documents, because in case you are allowed to do the tattoo, you will need to fill in a signed consent form. Click on the link if you want to know more about tattoos. DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR TATTOOING.

3 - Find a day when you have the time you need to devote to your appointment, especially if you are going to tattoo for more than 2 hours. And take the day off if possible so that you can rest and take care of yourself after the session. If you don't have to rush in and/or out, you will be able to enjoy more the moment you get tattooed.

Keep in mind that it is difficult to say precisely how much time you will spend in the store, since a tattoo involves several artistic and sanitary procedures, in addition to the time each client needs to do it, which can vary a lot.

4 -If you are a woman, try not to coincide the days of your period with the day of your appointment.if possible.

You already have your appointment.

There are some cares you can take from the week before to the day you will be tattooed

1 - Eat healthy and sleep well since the week before your appointment. The level of pain you feel during the tattooing process and good healing of the same will depend to a large extent on the physical condition in which you find yourself.

2 - Also your state of mind is just as important. If you can avoid thoughts or attitudes that make you nervous, you will be able to relax and concentrate better at the time of your appointment.

3 - Do not sunbathe and do not use U.V.A. excess since one week before the day of your appointment. If your skin is too tanned, too dry or irritated by the sun when you get a tattoo, you will probably not have the ideal result once it is healed.

4 - Take care of your skin's hydration. I recommend drink water in the recommended daily dose for you. I want to emphasize that I am referring to mineral, filtered or tap water, if it is drinkable. It is not worth drinking beer or carbonated soft drinks. It should be understood that other liquids with water as one of the ingredients practically do not count in your daily water intake.

For the external skin hydrationI do not recommend moisturizers of any kind, although there may be good brands. The most suitable and safest way to moisturize the skin is with oils

Not all oils are good for the skin, so I will list here three oils that work very well: virgin coconut, argan or extra virgin olive oil.

There are some others suitable for use on the skin that come mixed together, but do not contain preservatives or chemical components of any kind that can also serve perfectly well. When buying them, make sure of the components and avoid those mixed with chemical ingredients.

5 - If you have contractures or muscular injuries in the area to be tattooed, it is interesting to give yourself a massage, sauna or other type of treatment in the previous days. With this, you will reduce the possible pain caused by contractures or injuries, and therefore will not accentuate the sensation of pain when tattooing the affected areas.

A day before your tattoo appointment

1 - Avoid taking stimulants such as coffee, tea, soft drinks with caffeine or theine, energy drinks or substances with exciting components from the day before until the time of the appointment.

2 - Do not take alcohol, vasodilator drugs, anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs.such as aspirin from the day before until the time of the appointment.

3 - Don't stop sleeping well and the necessary hours tonight to be properly rested at the time of the tattoo.

The day of the appointment arrives

1 - Don't forget to wear the DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR TATTOOING and be sure of the payment methods available. Many tattoo stores do not accept card payments.

2 - Eat right on the day of the appointment. Not in excess, but do not come fasting or hungry.

3 - On the day of the appointment, take a good shower and do not apply any cosmetics. on the part of the body to be tattooed.

4 - You can shave the area to be tattooed., if you are able to do so without causing injury. If you are not sure if you can do it, the tattooist will do it at the time of the tattoo.

Waxing or depilatory creams are not recommended. in the two days before and on the day of your tattoo appointment.

5 - Go to the appointment in clean and comfortable clothes that do not cause friction in the area to be tattooed.. Preferably they should be black or old garmentsoccasionally they may be stained with ink.

Bring something to hold your hair if you think you might need it. Especially if you have long hair and will be tattooing somewhere near the head.

Depending on what you are going to get tattooedyou will be lying down, and for this it is better that you wear shoes that are practical to put on and take off.

If it is cold, you can bring a clean piece of clothing to serve as a blanket. during the session. For example, if you are tattooing the back, you will probably have to be shirtless, but you can use a sweatshirt with the zipper open to dress the arms, chest and abdomen. And nothing prevents you from wearing a (clean) blanket if you prefer!

6 - If the noise of the machines bothers you and the music relaxes you, you can bring your music and a headset for your date.

7 - You can bring a snack. If you wish, you can stop for a snack or a break during the session, but this interval should not be too long.

8 - Do you want to know if you can bring someone with you to accompany you during the tattoo? Many stores do not allow companions at the time of tattooing, and in some places the law prohibits it. Ask at the place where you are going to be tattooed and think if you want to have a companion.. Eventually it can be fun to have someone with you when you get tattooed, but mainly in large tattoos, you will need total concentration. If you bring someone with you, that person needs to be aware that you won't be able to move or carry on conversations normally while getting tattooed.

These recommendations are not mandatory, they are simply a series of attitudes that you can have if you want to try to prepare for your tattoo and have a more pleasant experience and better results in the aesthetic aspect of your tattoo.

Other tattoo artists may have different recommendations and this is not to say that these or those are wrong. It is totally normal that there are different ways to get to the same place and you can always choose the one you think is best.
