100 Women - From Jeosm's point of view

I met Jeosm many years agoI met him through another friend, Locus, from the well-known group Duo Kie. We were working together then, but I could have met him somewhere else, because we have many friends and passions in common.

Despite our busy lives, we have met many times in Madrid, either in tattoo studios, wrestling gyms or stores specializing in tattooing. graffiti, y I always knew about their photographic projects..

Today I am tattoo artist But even before I became one, since I was a child, I was always going around plotting something... doing some drawing, playing with inks, clay or whatever I could get my hands on. I always had these artistic processes.

The path of art is vocational, it is done simply by wanting it, not by needing it.

I have seen this same desire to make art in Jeosm.. He is always with some super interesting project and as we move in the same circles, I have been able to accompany the process of realization of some of his books.

I have to get my hands on a copy of his first book, "Reality." (click to view). I already had it in my hands and it's very cool, it's about urban culture and hip hop.. I have the second and third books, autographed by Jeosm and some of the portraits, whom I also admire very much.

In the second book "Sacrifice" (click to view)portrays wrestlers from MMA and there are a few of them with whom I have trained or who I have participated in championships of BJJ and various evenings.

In the third book "Urban Warriors" (click to view) Jeosm and Arturo Pérez-Reverte invite us to delve into the fascinating and mysterious world of street art, which is the graffiti.

Her latest book is called "Woman".(click to view) and will present it next Friday, May 19 at 20.00h , at Swinton & Grant bookstore, at 21 Miguel Servet Street in Madrid.

It will be attended by the journalist Marta Fernandez and the writer Arturo Pérez-Reverte for a talk. You can come if you want to!

In "Mujer", the photographer presents one hundred black and white portraits of women from his own environment and generation, most of them living in Madrid.

For this project he invited me and of course I accepted.. I had the honor of participating in this book that shows women of today, as they are and as they have wanted to show themselves, each one with her lifestyle and way of being, but always with something in common, for coinciding in the same space, at the same time.

I have been following his work since before the release of his first book, and I find common ground in his photographs, also because I know many of the people in the photos. Jeosm portrays people who struggle to live the way they want to live, doing what they love, willing to be who they really are.

I will quote here some of those portrayed who are true examples of what I am saying: the musician Javier Diazthe tattooist Abraham Cruzthe hairdresser Cassandra Torres and the wrestlers Valdir Kabeza Linhares and Javier Fuentes.

I think he identifies with those he portrays. I see in Jeosm what I see in his portraits. A person who believes in what he does, who decided to dedicate himself to his passions and these photographs are the result. I admire his attitude and determination, which is why I go to his presentations, buy his books and write about his work today.

People like Jeosm and many of the people in his portraits are a great inspiration to me, they motivate me to keep fighting for my dreams.
